For this project, a client approached James Knight about designing a functioning and livable farm house in Meriwether County, Georgia.
The concept was to build a home that could lived in year round and utilize a "Monitor Barn" style that would also house farming equipment within the confines of the home itself.
Fortunately, the client came well prepared with a site survey, soil test, inspiration images, and some rough floor plan layouts that he liked.
The property is located 3 miles east of Manchester, Georgia on Chalybeate
Springs Rd. in Meriwether County. The county has a total population of
21,000 residents where Greenville is the county seat and Manchester is the
largest city. The property is zoned RD (Rural Development District) and it
consists of rolling hills with ~850 foot road frontage.
The farmhouse would not be the primary residence so the structure at the
farm would need to provide both storage and security for equipment along with
living quarters when in use. The intention was to have a place where someone from the family could easily work and live onsite full time when necessary.
